Forum Fest 2011 Pacific Raceways - June 25, 2011

June 26, 2011

After winning Woodburn Import Face Off on May 29. 2011 we were feeling good but we knew we were a long way from our goal and the car needed improvement (Remember, "KAIZEN" represents continuous improvement). We got back to the shop with a focus on our customers. After 2 weeks of late nights and long weeks we were somewhat caught up. We finally got Scott Klekar's AMAZING EVO 8 tuned (647 hp fuel pressure limited), completed ten customer tunes and updated our online store available here at KStuned.com http://www.kstuned.com/products/engine.html.

We then turned our focus to our H2b EK to prepare for Forum Fest 2011.

Forum Fest is a local event held by NWmotiv.com and supported by local sponsors from western Washington. Complete with a large car show, drift event and a test-n-tune drag racing exhibition, Forum Fest 2011 had a great turn out. Unfortunately we didn't get any pictures this time, just a couple quick Iphone photos!

The morning was spent hanging out in our pits and meeting new customers, fellow racers and catching up with friends. The test-n-tune didn't start until late in the afternoon. The first pass was a great race between our KStuned.com H2b Outlaw Civic with Reid driving and Kevin at Speed Factory's Civic. The crowd was ready for this race, as were both crews of KAIZENSPEED / KStuned and Speed Factory. Reid got the jump on Kevin with a faster reaction time and 60 ft. time. But a recent change to the rpm limiter was giving us issues in second gear. Kevin pulled up on us through second gear but we still had the lead. We kept the lead through third and fourth. Both cars managed personal bests with SF running 8.72 at 176 and KStuned running 8.83 at 171.9 mph!

After pouring over the logs we found that we still weren't making the boost that we were asking for. With the boost solenoid duty cycle at 100% we had no option but to add another wastegate spring. We took the wastegate from a friends car (thanks Al!) only to find out that it was too large. Then just in time we found the right size from someone pitted next to us. We got the wastegate put back on and got in line against our friends once again. This time the Civic should have been set to "KILL!" Track temp was heating up and the air was as well. Both cars managed faster than previous events but not as fast as earlier in the day. Reid got the jump on Kevin at the tree again but the 60 ft. time was slower, a 1.51. Kevin pulled ahead through first and second but we were hunting him down. We ran an 8.87 at 169 mph to their 8.80 at 166 mph side by side all the way down the track.

It was a good exhibition, later this season will be a good race!

As always, thanks to our loyal customers, local and world wide. And thanks to good friends. Building cars is what we do, thanks to you. We absolutely couldn't do it without you.
